Multicultural, Multilingual Engagement

Multicultural, multilingual engagement

The MAS program provides academic and experiential learning opportunities for students from all majors to engage with the culture, language, and intricacies of the MAS world. Students can participate in the Alvarez Seminar, work on an Alvarez Summer internship, or join the MAS Leadership Development class. Our faculty also offers a diverse approach to the MAS region through courses and discussions around campus.

Academic Opportunities

Although the MAS program does not offer a baccalaureate degree, faculty from across campus and in diverse majors help provide a broad view of the MAS world.

FYE, Latinidades

As a First Year Experience course taught by MAS faculty, this class explores the historical and contemporary forces shaping Latin American and Latinx identities. Through perspectives from history, media studies, anthropology, and sociology, it examines topics including colonialism, race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexuality, migration, transnationalism, language, and media while asking, “What is Latinidades?”
