Many processes change when a student enters college. Students hold primary responsibility for their accounts and education records, and families may need the student’s authorization to view information or act on their behalf.
Tuition, billing, and financial aid
Review billing schedules, payment options, financial aid requirements, and important deadlines early.
- Use the official tuition and billing resources for balances, payment instructions, and payment plans.
- Check whether financial aid documents or student actions remain outstanding.
- Begin the financial aid renewal process on the published schedule each year.
- Contact Student Financial Services with account-specific questions.
Student records and FERPA
Under FERPA, rights associated with education records generally transfer to the student when they enroll in college. Trinity may not be able to release grades, financial information, or other education records without the student’s permission.
- Discuss expectations for sharing academic and financial information before a problem arises.
- Ask your student to complete the approved authorization process when access is appropriate.
- Remember that authorization allows communication; it does not transfer responsibility away from the student.
What students need to do themselves
Some actions must be completed through the student’s account or directly by the student.
- Review and accept required agreements.
- Complete financial aid forms and respond to requests for documents.
- Grant or remove authorized access.
- Contact the responsible office when information is incorrect or a deadline may be missed.
