Get Involved
The MAS Program offers many experiences for students to immerse themselves in new cultures, languages, and peoples. From study abroad to research to pizza socials, there are many ways for students to get involved outside the classroom.
Scholarships and Awards
Global Latinx Outstanding Graduating Senior Award
The program recognizes one outstanding graduating senior from the Global LatinX Studies major.
Research
Undergraduate Research in the Arts and Humanities Grant research with MAS faculty
Students have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty research projects, funded by resources such as the Student Undergraduate Research Fund (SURF) or Trinity’s Undergraduate Research in the Arts and Humanities.
Global Latinx Studies | Senior Portfolios
Seniors in the Global Latinx Studies program develop portfolios that tie together the interdisciplinary links between at least three different courses. This project represents the culmination of personal and professional growth in the understanding of Latinx communities in the Americas and beyond.
Study Abroad
Today, cross-cultural understanding is as much a practical necessity as an educational standard. Studying abroad is an embodiment of the liberal arts ideals and a sign of the initiative and breadth often looked for by employers.
Students have access to need-based study abroad scholarships through the Trinity’s Center for International Engagement and the Carlos and Malu Alvarez Study Abroad grant provided by the Mexico, the Americas and Spain program.
Experiential Learning
The program fosters close ties between the University and the Latinx community in San Antonio and beyond through internships, service-learning, and other experiential opportunities.
The MAS Alvarez Summer Internship Grant Program
The Alvarez Summer Internship Grant program engages Trinity students in matters and activities falling under the MAS mission and promotes Trinity University's relations with non-profit organizations whose activities are related to the MAS Program and its mission.
MAS Leadership Program
Designed for Latinx students and any student interested in the Latinx community, this program develops nontraditional leadership skills outside of resumes and public speaking, such as community building, cultural understanding, and networking.
Student Organizations
Trinity University Latino Association (TULA)
Trinity University Latin Association aims to celebrate the Latinx community within the Trinity and San Antonio community as a way to educate students about LatinX culture. Students of any ethnicity are welcome in the organization.
Sigma Delta Pi Honor Society
Sigma Delta Pi is the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society. The society aims to honor those who attain excellence in the language, literature, and culture of Spanish-speaking people.
De Colores Graduation Celebration
At De Colores—a unique celebration of Trinity’s graduating Latinx seniors—seniors invite their families, friends, and countless members of the Trinity community who’ve supported them in school, and each selects a loved one to present them with a colorful stole in honor of their graduation, a stole they can proudly showcase during Commencement.
