Trinity University Scores A+ on Forbes Financial Grades
Trinity students are benefitting from the university's strong financial position.

Trinity University is among the financially strongest private universities in the country with a grade of A+, according to the 2026 Forbes Financial Grades.

Trinity’s strength is in contrast to many other universities, the magazine reports. Nearly half of the 900 private universities it graded received a C, and 27% received the lowest grade, a D. In Texas, Trinity is one of five private universities to receive an A+, along with Rice University, and it joins other national universities including Vanderbilt, Williams, Amherst, and Duke that received the top grade. A searchable list is available here.

While many universities across the country are contending with a shrinking pool of college-age students, Texas, and especially San Antonio, are growing. Trinity has also received significant gifts in recent years, including $26.5 million to name the D. R. Semmes School of Science, $25 million to name the Carlos Alvarez School of Arts and Humanities, and $6.1 million from the Semmes Foundation to create opportunities for students and faculty in the sciences.

Students are benefiting from the university’s financial situation through increased access, financial support, and funded programs that advance their academic careers. This spring, four were named Fulbright awardees, one was named a Truman Scholar, and four student-athletes received NCAA scholarships for graduate studies, including the Jim McKay Graduate Scholarship
