Writer-director James F. Robinson ’78, a Trinity University graduate in cinema and art history, conceived the film Still Breathing in part as a love letter to San Antonio. Filming locations include the Alamo, Mission San José, plus homes in Alamo Heights and Olmos Park. Robinson has said he wanted to capture the city's distinctive, almost magical character on film. Texas Public Radio (TPR) took a look back at the 1997 film and the way the Brendan Fraser–Joanna Going romantic fantasy captured the city as more than a backdrop.
The film also has deeper Trinity University ties. Robinson drew on his relationship with former Trinity art professor Bill Bristow, who served as an artist and consultant on the production and created imagery for the film after Robinson contacted his former professor for help.
