Summary
Trinity University political science professor Austin Bussing, Ph.D., provided analysis of the Texas governor’s race in a News 4 (WOAI) segment examining campaign promises from Gov. Greg Abbott and challenger Gina Hinojosa. Bussing compared the candidates’ proposals to address rising household costs and growing concerns over AI data centers as Texans participate in early voting.

As Texas voters cast their ballots on the final day of early voting, News 4 (WOAI) is informing voters on the campaign promises of the two candidates running for Texas governor: Gov. Greg Abbott and Texas state Rep. Gina Hinojosa. In a news segment that aired Wednesday night, Trinity University political science professor Austin Bussing, Ph.D., offered analysis of the campaigns.

Bussing compared the candidates’ plans to address affordability, which is a main campaign theme as gas and grocery prices continue to soar. Abbott has put forth a five-point plan to get rid of property taxes, Bussing said, while Hinojosa’s proposal would use a rainy day fund to pay $1,500 refunds to each Texas household.

And both candidates have also highlighted the need to slow the growth of AI data centers in Texas. “Both candidates realize, because they read the political winds, that data centers are politically toxic, essentially,” Bussing says. You can watch the entire News 4 segment here.
