On election day, local news outlets continue to feature analysis from Trinity University political science experts to shape their coverage. In a story on KUT News in Austin, David Crockett, Ph.D., and Austin Bussing, Ph.D., offered their expertise on how the candidates for governor propose to make life more affordable for Texans. The KUT transcript can be found here.
Bussing also discussed campaign funding in a TV segment that aired yesterday on KSAT News about how the Texas’ U.S. Senate race has become the most expensive on record. Bussing explained that campaign spending has increased steadily over the last several years following a 2010 initiative that protected these donations as free speech. “It’s very hard to limit how much you can give, at least through certain channels,” Bussing said. You can watch the piece here.
In a separate story on KSAT’s “Good Morning San Antonio” show today, Bussing talks about the mid-decade redrawing of some of Texas’ congressional districts by the state Republican party to favor GOP candidates. “The question now is whether that effort is going to work or whether it’s going to backfire,” Bussing says. You can catch his comments around minute 23 of this YoutTube video.
Crockett also spoke about the influence of the Latino vote, a swing voting block, on the midterm election, on “Good Morning San Antonio.” His comments are in the beginning of this YouTube video. And Bussing shares thoughts on the same topic on KSAT at minute 26 of this video.
