Summary
Trinity University enrolled 2,616 students in fall 2026, a 1% increase over last year, according to the San Antonio Report. Dean of Admissions Justin Doty attributes the growth partly to strong recruitment across Texas, where enrollment increased 12% despite intensifying competition from out-of-state universities seeking to attract Texas students.

Trinity University welcomed 2,616 students this fall, a 1% increase over fall 2025 and its largest enrollment gain since a pandemic-related decline, according to a recent article in the San Antonio Report. The incoming class of 654 first-year students draws heavily from major Texas cities, including Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio.

According to Justin Doty, dean of admissions at Trinity University, enrollment of students from Texas increased 12% year over year. “We don’t take our backyard for granted,” he told the SA Report. “ Texas cities are just exploding in growth … So we’re seeing new high schools popping up, really strong applicants.”

The competition for getting Texas students has increased as well, the article reports, as the state continues to produce a steady stream of highly qualified applicants despite a nationwide decline in the number of college-age young adults.

“I feel like, honestly, we are playing offense and defense in Texas,” Doty says. “There now are close to 200 regional [representatives] that are living, working, recruiting, in Texas. Seventy percent of them, their college is not in Texas.” Ten years ago the number of out-of-state recruiters was closer to 50, Doty added. Read the entire SA Report piece here.
