Fans of the band The Butthole Surfers, which was formed in the early 1980s by students of Trinity University, can attend a free panel discussion and improv event celebrating a documentary film detailing the band’s history. San Antonio artist and Trinity University alum David Elizondo ’78, ’86M is organizing an event celebrating the local origins of the Butthole Surfers, founded by fellow Trinity students Gibby Haynes and Paul Leary. Featuring an interactive improv session and panel discussion, the event will explore how the band’s unconventional style was influenced by the duo’s Trinity education, including exposure to avant-garde thinkers such as Marcel Duchamp, while their business coursework helped propel the group from an experimental art project to national prominence.
