Trinity participates in the Raising Texas Teachers network, which supports universities that are rigorously preparing students to address the needs of 21st-century students.
The Charles Butt Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers is awarded annually to undergraduate and Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) students at Trinity University. Undergraduate rising juniors and seniors can earn up to $8,000 while MAT students can earn up to $10,000 for the one-year program.
Eligibility
We encourage applicants to look into the knowledge, skills, and values that are important to the Charles Butt Scholars program and its scholars. We will help the program make its scholar decisions by reviewing applications and providing student recommendations.
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must:
- Be enrolled in or applying to the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) at Trinity University as a rising undergraduate junior or senior or entering MAT graduate student
- Demonstrate strong academic achievement and leadership skills
- Commit to teaching in the Texas public school system in either a Title I school OR in a shortage subject area (math, science, bilingual education, or special education
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Preferred: Texas resident of at least three years

Step 2
Apply for the Scholarship
Eligible undergraduate juniors and seniors and Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) students may apply for the Charles Butt Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers. Scholarship recipients also join a statewide network of aspiring teachers and receive ongoing professional development and mentorship.
Undergraduate students: up to $8,000 per year
MAT students: up to $10,000 during the one-year MAT program
