To celebrate Women’s History Month 2025, Trinity University’s Women’s and Gender Studies (WAGS) program has organized a lineup of events and programming that is free and open to the campus community. The lineup is centered around the theme of “Ecofeminism: Gender and the Environment.”
“We selected this theme to provide our community with a space to discuss these issues and with ways to proactively engage in trying to build a better world together—an often-forgotten but central goal of feminism as we define it,” says Sarah Erickson, Ph.D., WAGS program director and Trinity communication professor.
WAGS will kick off the month with a volunteer event with the Trinity University Volunteer Action Community (TUVAC) to do river cleanup at Headwaters Sanctuary at Incarnate Word, the only nature sanctuary in the heart of San Antonio. WAGS will also host a Women’s History Month Book Club for The Serviceberry by Robin Wall Kimmerer, a renowned author and ecologist who gave Trinity’s 2024 DeCoursey Lecture last fall. The first 15 Trinity students to sign up via this link will receive free copies of the book!
WAGS will round out the month with a panel discussion, in which five Trinity faculty members will reflect on how gender and the environment play a role in their own work, and a keynote address from Romy Opperman, Ph.D., a philosophy professor at the New School for Social Research.
