I recently submitted a piece for publication: The Virtuous "Passion": The Politics of Pity in Staël's De l'influence des passions about emotions as both a cause and a proposed solution to the social upheaval of the French Revolution. I'm working on a book project about the efforts of French writers, both marginal and established, to win a new social recognition at the turn of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
