Why Study Language and Literature at Trinity?

Our department offers majors and minors in five languages, as well as programs in comparative literature and global Latinx studies. All of them provide skills and knowledge that prepare you for careers in an increasingly interconnected world.
Whichever area of study you choose, you’ll benefit from close faculty mentorship, immersive learning experiences, and abundant opportunities to get involved on campus, from clubs to cultural celebrations.
Most modern languages students study abroad for at least a semester, where they can practice their speaking skills with the locals. Many complete independent research projects, including through an honors thesis. And San Antonio, one of the most diverse cities in the U.S., gives you plenty of ways to engage with other cultures right near campus.
Areas of Study
We offer majors and minors in a variety of languages, literatures, and cultures.
Chinese (B.A., Minor)
This program not only explores Chinese language and culture, but also international business and policy. All majors study abroad.
French Studies (B.A., Minor)
Beyond language, you’ll explore French civilization, cinema, literature, and other specialized topics.
German Studies (B.A., Minor)
Study German language, literature, art, culture, politics, and ideas. Maybe even spend a semester abroad in Berlin or Freiberg.
Russian (B.A., Minor)
This major includes courses in three areas: language, literature, and culture. Learn about Russian cinema, folklore, and more.
Spanish (B.A., Minor)
Master the language, gain cultural knowledge, and understand key works of literature, all with the rich backdrop of San Antonio.
Global Latinx Studies (B.A.)
Rooted in the Latinx experience across time, this major spans the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences.
