Anene Ejikeme received her PhD from Columbia University. A specialist in modern African history, she studies the politics of gender and economic development in colonial and postcolonial Africa. She has written about women in Onitsha [Nigeria] and she is currently working on a biography of the boxer, Hogan "Kid" Bassey, 1957 world welterweight champion and Nigerian nationalistic icon. Prior to coming to Trinity, Anene taught at Barnard College in New York, where she served as the Director of the Pan-African Studies Program from 2001 to 2003.
