How We Review Applications

Trinity University is a selective institution, but we consider the complete picture of who you are. As we review your application, we look at your academic preparation, your experiences, and the perspective you would bring to our community.

Grade Point Average (GPA)

Your GPA, the rigor of your courses, and the breadth of your curriculum are all important considerations. We give particular attention to students who challenge themselves through honors, dual credit, Advanced Placement (AP), or International Baccalaureate (IB) courses, when available.

We recalculate each applicant’s GPA using a standardized, unweighted scale to ensure consistency across schools.

Course Expectations

To be considered competitive, first-year applicants typically complete:

• 4 years of English
• 3 years of college preparatory mathematics (including algebra II and either trigonometry, precalculus, or statistics)
• 3 years of science (including at least 2 years of laboratory science)
• 3 years of social science
• 2 years of the same foreign language

Your essay is an opportunity to share your voice and perspective. We encourage you to respond thoughtfully and authentically to your chosen prompt.

Take time to revise and proofread your work before submitting.

We consider your involvement outside the classroom and the impact you’ve made over time.

We look for sustained participation, leadership, and meaningful contributions, whether through school activities, work, family responsibilities, or community engagement.

Recommendations from teachers and counselors help us understand your character, work ethic, and contributions in the classroom and beyond.

They also provide context about your academic performance and school environment.

Trinity is test-optional, and you are not required to submit SAT or ACT scores.

If you choose to include test scores, we will consider them as part of your application. If you do not, your application will still receive full consideration.

Note: Homeschooled applicants who do not submit test scores may be required to complete an admissions interview.
