Philosophy students evaluate principles of conduct, develop standards of evidence, and learn methods for resolving conflicts and appraising arguments. The Department of Philosophy offers a broad range of courses rooted deeply in fundamental knowledge.
Philosophy (B.A., Minor)
Our philosophy programs cover traditional areas of philosophy: metaphysics, epistemology, ethics, logic, and aesthetics. It also offers courses that are not commonly found in undergraduate philosophy departments, such as Hellenistic Philosophy, Philosophy of Music, Philosophy of Children, Non-Classical Logics, and Biomedical Ethics.
Ethics (Minor)
Ethics—the study of obligation and well-being—the study of art and beauty—complement courses on the history and nature of philosophy.
History of Philosophy (Minor)
Through the History of Philosophy minor, you explore major philosophical traditions from ancient Greece to today. You examine influential texts and ideas while building skills in interpretation, argument, and historical analysis.
Logic and Philosophy of Cognition (Minor)
The study of philosophy encourages students to think deeply and critically about reality, our relationship to the world, reasoning, and values.
