by Ron Nirenberg ’99 and David Lesch
Trinity University Press’s new release, Nirenberg: The Education of a Texas Public Servant, offers a compelling portrait of Ron Nirenberg’s eight-year tenure as mayor of San Antonio, the seventh-largest city in the United States. In this candid memoir, Nirenberg ’99 reflects on the formative moments that shaped his path to public service and reveals how principled leadership and compassionate governance can unite communities and navigate any crisis.
Nirenberg joined Trinity University this academic year as the Calgaard Distinguished Professor of Practice in the Department of Communication. David W. Lesch, Ph.D., is the Ewing Halsell Distinguished Professor of History at Trinity and has published 18 books, including A History of the Middle East Since the Rise of Islam, Syria: A Modern History, and The Arab-Israeli Conflict: A History. To craft Nirenberg: The Education of a Texas Public Servant, Lesch conducted interviews with Nirenberg, and the two worked together to refine the text and bring the story to life.
