Trinity University music professor David Mollenauer joined the Harmonium of Texas for the new orchestra’s debut performances featuring Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana.” The production brought together about 200 singers and 90 musicians for Harmonium’s first program of its inaugural season.

Trinity University music professor David Mollenauer brought his cello talents to the Harmonium of Texas in the new orchestra’s first performances last week. The San Antonio Express-News reports that the program was built around “Carmina Burana,” an epic choral piece written in 1936 by Carl Orff, and featured 200 singers and up to 90 musicians. Mollenauer told the publication that he jumped at the chance to work with Harmonium’s founding artistic director, Jeffrey Kahane. “That was a really easy decision,” Mollenauer told the Express-News. “Maestro Kahane, we’ve worked with him with the Philharmonic and he’s magic. And I’m dying to work with him again.” Mollenauer also plays with the SOLI chamber ensemble.

The next Harmonium event will be an evening with renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma on Nov. 16. Read the entire Express-News article here.
