John A. Burke, Ph.D.

Dr. Burke served on the faculty from 1963 to 2000.  During his tenure he held positions of department chairman 1969-76 and Dean of the Division of Science, Mathematics and Engineering 1976-86. Most years he taught General Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry and the Analytical Instrumentation courses. Early in his career he was mentor for more than six Master of Science graduate students.   Throughout his career he involved more than fifty undergraduates in research with funding from the Welch Foundation, NSF, USAF and Trinity grant funds. The research concentrated on the chemistry of transition metal elements, primarily iron, cobalt, nickel, platinum, palladium and ruthenium.  In retirement he has continued contacts with a group of former students with careers worldwide. Since his retirement at the end of the 1999-2000 academic year, after a long and distinguished career at Trinity, He has been devoting most of his time to his family.
