Explore the Science of Life Through Research
All of our biology faculty maintain research programs in which students are active collaborators with many opportunities to participate in biological research. From microbial genetics to ecosystem dynamics, students explore new ideas and integrate biological knowledge while gaining experience with techniques in cutting-edge laboratory research.
Summer Research
The biology department has a large and active summer research program and offers free housing to participants, with several mechanisms available for students to get involved.
Research with Faculty
Faculty maintain individual research grants from institutions such as NIH, NSF, and USDA that fund collaborative summer research with undergraduate students.
Research Internships
Students can participate in research during the academic year or summer at Trinity or at other universities and research institutions, with opportunities to earn course credit and/or a stipend.
Independent Study
Students who want to pursue research during the semester can volunteer or enroll in 1–3 hours of independent study credit (BIOL 3-90).
McNair Scholars Program
The McNair Scholars Program provides graduate school preparation — including research support — for first-generation students and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Honors Research
Biology majors in the Honors Program can pursue a sustained independent research project culminating in a written thesis and public presentation.
