I am from Puerto Rico and moved to the U.S. in 2001 with the intention of returning to the island. Fortunately, I got my dream job at Trinity University in 2010, where I am able to balance my love for scholarship with my love for classroom teaching. I have two daughters and a hard-working, supportive husband, who enabled me to complete my Ph.D. while working.
My teaching philosophy is student centered, and I facilitate students' awareness of the Latin American context and culture and its relationship with the United States and the world.

My research background is Latin American literature and culture, but I focus more on the Hispanic Caribbean. My main interests are the development of cultural concepts like national identity, race, and feminism inside cultural manifestations such as literature, film, music, or art.
