This discovery introduces students to the history of the United States. By encouraging students to learn about three different facets of US history—from foreign relations to race, religion to popular protest-- across a wide timespan from before the colonial period to the present day, students will be able to exploremore deeply how multiple different facets of the history of the United States informs our present moment. This discovery also introduces students to the historic discipline, encouraging them to effectively analyze primary sources, draw causal connections from evidence, and critically engage with contemporary scholarship.

Requirements

Completion of at least 9 credit hours of courses from the lists below, including at least two upper-division courses (3xxx, 4xxx). a) At least one course must focus on the US history before Reconstruction:

Additional Information

  • A student must complete at least one  Discovery to qualify for graduation

  • Courses in the Discovery must be taken at Trinity University.
  • Students can also fulfill the Discovery requirement by completing a second major or a minor.
