Overview
Russia plays a major role in US foreign policy and, increasingly, domestic politics. Public discourse in the United States suggests that many Americans do not know a great deal about Russia. Courses in this Discovery will help the student to study in depth the history, literature, cinema, religion, folkways, and fine arts in Russia. The courses will provide context as students observe current events in the Russian Federation and the former Soviet Union. In so doing, it will also acquaint students with what most Russians consider the country's greatest achievement: the work of its writers, artists, and thinkers.
