Each summer research student must submit a Stipend Disbursement Form. The deadlines, disbursement schedule and specific instructions may vary by grant program or department. Please contact your research mentor or Claudia Scholz (Coordinator of Research Programs) if you have any questions.
Recommended payment dates are 5/23, 6/27 and 8/1, but faculty are free to distribute stipend payments as they feel is appropriate. Payment checks are normally issued to the student's department. Students conducting research off campus should contact Claudia Scholz or make arrangements with their department secretary to have payments mailed to their summer address. Direct Deposit is not available for student stipend payments.

NOTE: If you are an international student, you must initial and turn in the "Tax Implications & Reporting Requirements Form" with your stipend form, acknowledging that you understand the tax implications of the payments you will be receiving. This does not apply to U.S. Permanent Residents.
*HHMI students may apply for up to $2,000 to help offset the costs of research-related supplies and travel. Students and faculty mentors should prepare a budget for supplies and travel and send it to Kimberly Messersmith as soon as possible.
**TU-SURF students may apply for up to $1,400 to help offset the costs of research expenses and travel to a professional conference to present research results. Students and faculty mentors should prepare a budget for supplies and travel and send it to Adela Molina-Johnston as soon as possible.
*** In addition to a stipend and food allowance, each McNair Scholar is eligible for up to $500 to support summer travel, either to come back to San Antonio for the summer research program or for a visit home during the 10-week research period. Students must present receipts detailing their travel expenses within two weeks of the date of travel and no later than August 1, 2008. Mileage will be reimbursed at a rate of 50.5 cents per mile. Please contact Audree Hernandez, McNair Scholars Program, to get appropriate forms for summer travel funds reimbursement.
Summer research students may be eligible to live in campus housing free of charge for the duration of their research experience. Note that campus housing is available from May 25 until August 2, 2008. Students needing housing outside of this period will have to seek off-campus housing alternatives.
If space is available, research students ineligible for the housing subsidy may be granted summer housing under special circumstances, but will be billed for housing at the regular $117/week rate.
Summer housing space is limited and will be filled on a first-come-first-served basis. In order to secure a slot, complete a Housing Reservation Form and submit it to Claudia Scholz (Northrup 341) as soon as possible. The last day to reserve housing is April 11, 2008.
Note that you must request a roommate at the time of submitting your form or one will be assigned to you. In order to get to know who else expects to be living on campus this summer, ask around in your department or join the Trinity Summer Research Program group on Facebook.
Students living on campus during the summer are especially encouraged to register for TrinALERT in order to receive text messages to their mobile device in the event of a critical emergency. This system is voluntary and students may sign up or opt out at any time.
Summer research students are eligible for one free tuition credit under certain circumstances. In order to receive tuition credit for summer work, students must complete the Course Credit Request Form and submit it to Claudia Scholz (Northrup 341) by April 18, 2008.
Students are asked to make sure there are no holds on their summer registration before submitting this form. The Registrar may place a Hold on your registration because of a failure to submit health insurance information or outstanding charges from the spring semester.
Note: Course credit for Chemistry students is arranged through the department. Eligible students will be registered by Dr. Bert Chandler. There is no need to turn in a form.
In addition to the above forms, summer research students not matriculated at Trinity University must complete a Registration Form in order to be entered into the Datatel student management system. This information is necessary in order to provide students with access to university services such as the library. Directors of REU programs may submit this data as a spreadsheet or in an alternate format if desired. Please send forms or data to Dr. Claudia Scholz

Students bringing a car to campus will have to obtain a parking permit. The pro-rated fee for the summer months will be $29.30.
Students hired as redient advisors for summer research and summer school areas are required to complete two Personnel forms before receiving their paycheck.
